Recap: Fancy Food Truck Fridays Returns To Webster’s

It’s always exciting to watch the trucks roll in at Webster’s Parking Lot on Fancy Food Truck Fridays. Each showy truck claims their spot for the evening and then heat up their grills. Folks from around the neighborhood are lured in by the wafts of savory aromas that fill the air. It’s going to be another great night!

May was a foodie fest month that brought out local news channel ABC7’s Eye On LA. They were tracking Grill ‘Em All food truck for a special report on their show. It was exciting to witness them interview the popular truck right on Webster’s Lot!

Penelope the Pig was a big hit with all. She was surrounded by her buddies (2 sheep), and curious bystanders who wanted to meet with her. Even the reporter from the news station was curious about Penelope.
The food was fantastic with offerings that ranged from American grilling to Italian fare to Japanese specialties and Hawaiian treats. Unlike the wet weather in April, this month indulged in an evening with perfect springtime sunshine and a cool breeze to taper off the beaming rays. Many strolled into Webster’s Community Pharmacy for their last minute Mother’s Day Shopping and to enter our exclusive gift basket drawing.

Overall, it was a fun evening filled with friends and family. We can’t wait to do it all over again in June! Follow our Facebook page to keep up to date with all the latest news from our pharmacy and events like this one. Join us on June 8 for another fabulous evening at Fancy Food Truck Fridays!

Altadena’s First Flag Stands Tall

Saturday, April 21st  was a historic day for the citizens of Altadena, as citizens gathered at the Altadena Community Center to witness the raising of the first flag of this lovely city. Several dignitaries were in attendance including Congressman Adam Schiff, Supervisor Mike Antonovich, State Senator Carol Liu, Assemblyman Anthony Portantino and others. Partners for this endeavor including the Altadena Chamber of Commerce, Altadena Historical Society, Altadena Heritage, Altadena Senior Center, and Altadena Chapter of the NAACP, Altadena Sheriff’s Station, Altadena California Highway Patrol, Altadena Rotary, and the Altadena Library Association stood by proudly as they saw their efforts hoisted in the air.

Published author Michelle Zack gave a short illustrated presentation on the history of Altadena. Her passion for this humble town is evident in her book, “Altadena: Between Wilderness and City”. Her book was recognized in 2005 for excellence by the American Association of State and Local History, and in 2006 she received the Donald Pflueger Award from the Historical Society of Southern California. “My role is to connect local history to broad historical themes, which I will continue to do. Now I have an academic home, and welcome the affiliation to such a prestigious institution,” she says.

Altadena’s roots date to the 1870’s. It’s not an incorporated city, but thanks to the tenacious work of many it now has its own flag. Town Council Chairwoman Sandra Thomas designed the flag. It features the community seal on a white field, with a green stripe and “ALTADENA, CA” at the bottom. Eight stars above the seal represent Altadena’s census tracts. Thomas’ simple design turned out to be the winner out of 13 submissions (without names attached) voted on by the community. “It depicts all of Altadena, because the logo is sitting there. Our state flower, our tree, the mountains, all of the things that Altadena is about,” Thomas said. The flag dedication coincides with the community’s 125th anniversary. Professional flag maker, Bea Jones of Garden Grove, was recruited to handle the production for the three sizes of the flag. “It’s a very typical American flag,” Jones said. ” A flag should be able to tell a story.”

Limited miniature versions of the Altadena flag, with certificates of authenticity, are now available for $19.95 at Webster’s Pharmacy, 2450 N. Lake Ave. Hurry in to own a piece of this history, today!
